How to check ISBN numbers

An ISBN (International Standard Book Number) is a unique identifier for books, designed to help publishers, booksellers, and libraries track and manage inventory efficiently.

You can choose to keep or remove rows with invalid ISBN numbers.

A valid ISBN number must:

• be 10 or 13 digits long (the last digit can be an ‘X’, to represent a checksum of 10)
• have a valid ISBN checksum digit (computed from the other digits)

Hyphens or spaces in the code are ignored.

Examples of valid ISBN numbers are:

• 152935112X
• 978-1-60309-502-0
