Easy Data Transform v2.11.1 is now available
Easy Data Transform v2.11.1 is now available for Windows and Mac. Improvements include:
- Case sensitive locale aware sorting in the Sort transform.
- Improvements to warnings output to the command line.
- Bug fixes.

Easy Data Transform and AI
AI AI AI. If you are involved in programming or data, it’s pretty much all you hear about these days. Some companies now claim to be using AIs to write most of their code for them. We aren’t one of those companies. We might ask an AI for some ideas about how to solve a programming problem, but coding Easy Data Transform remains a very human endeavour. We have no plans to use AI agents to ‘vibe code’ Easy Data Transform.
Some people also claim to be using AIs to wrangle and analyse data. We are (unsurpisingly!) skeptical of this:
- The capabilities of the current generation of AIs is impressive. But there is a lot of hype from the people selling these tools.
- If an AI doesn’t know the answer it will often offer up a plausible sounding, but quite wrong, answer.
- An AI asked the same question twice might give two different answers.
- The current generation of AIs is likely to struggle with even moderate size datasets.
However, the new Large Language Model AIs do have their uses. They have been aggressively trawling our documentation and forum and can give reasonable answers to some Easy Data Transform questions. Often quoting chunks of our documentation. Just be wary that AI answers may be incorrect (‘hallucinated’). So exercise caution.

And finally…
@MarsKy suggested a UK government fuel price dataset as a test dataset. We had a quick look at the dataset in Easy Data Transform and only took a few minutes to find:
- UK petrol stations located in the middle of the South Atlantic and Indian oceans.
- Some petrol stations charging more than 1000 times as much (per litre) as others.
It is poor show when governments release datasets without even doing basic validation.
